Alan founded Alan Solomons + Co Chartered Accountants, laying the foundations for a practice built on independence, technical rigour and long-term client relationships.

Alan founded one of the five local tax discussion groups for NW London Chartered Accountants.

The practice was computerised early, reflecting Alan’s belief that better systems lead to stronger analysis and more informed financial decisions.

After analysing pension performance tables, Alan identified wide performance gaps and began advising clients on pensions to protect them from poor outcomes and product bias.

Alan reviewed IBIS accounting software for Accountancy Magazine, recognising early the growing importance of technology in professional practice.

Alan became Chair of the only surviving tax discussion group, attracting 50 to 60 members and establishing a stronger forum than larger regional accountancy meetings.

Alan introduced advanced tax and accounting courses, attracting up to 200 attendees and establishing a respected forum for professional education.

Organised a mock Inland Revenue Commissioners meeting, raising funds for charity and establishing a tradition of annual charitable giving for NW London Chartered Accountants. It was also the first monthly main meeting to exceed 40 members, with 143 attending.

Founded Campus Courses to deliver specialist tax training with leading barristers and partners from top firms until the early 1990s recession halted demand.

An interview in Accountancy Magazine followed Alan’s early recognition of Windows-based accounting software, accelerating its adoption across the profession.

Delivered sold-out self-assessment courses and high-profile technical events, outperforming comparable programmes run by national publishers.

As Chair of Membership at Rotary Club of Harrow, Alan helped introduce its first female members and increase overall membership by 20%.

Moving to paperless systems helped streamline processes and focus more on clients.

Alpha Investments and Financial Planning Ltd was established, bringing together decades of investment, tax and accountancy experience under one independent firm.

Alan, with all other financial advisers, was required to sit exams and pass by 31 December 2012.

Introduced electronic signatures and secure transfer of confidential documents.

On 1 September 2017, Alan became a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Member of Dynamic Planner Software User Group until disbanded in 2025.

Alan became a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.
